Spreading out before me is an unedited sea.
All you can hear is the sound of the waves as they are.

“Birth”: The Story Behind the Place Name
.

Once upon a time, the Thirteen Deities set out from Izumo and headed east.

On that occasion, we encountered a storm off the coast of the Nekozaki Peninsula and anchored the boat to take shelter at a spot near the base of the peninsula—right next to this inn.

And it is said that a new, fourteenth deity was born there.

People celebrate the birth of this new god and call this land “Birth.”

A mysterious land woven from myths.

That is “Tanjo no Ura,” where the Okukinosaki Seaside Hotel is located.

Experience it with all five senses.

The sound of the waves and the silence—
—help me clear my mind.

It takes zero seconds to walk to Takeno Beach, which was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Beaches. The environment, free from artificial noise, provides deep relaxation for the mind.

Recharge your energy for tomorrow at
—down to the cellular level.

Matsuba crab, Kasumi crab, Tajima beef, and locally caught fish. Unprocessed seasonal delicacies, delivered from the fishing port to your table via the shortest route.

My true self quietly comes back to life:
.

This place, whose name includes the word “birth,” gently restores a sense of self-worth and connection when all five senses are fulfilled.

In addition to visiting fishing grounds, we also go directly to local farmers to carefully select our ingredients. Both the rice and the vegetables are sourced from this region.

Shibayama crab in winter, abalone in summer, and Tajima beef all year round.

The bounty of the Sea of Japan and Tajima, served dish by dish in creative kaiseki meals that reflect the changing seasons.

Greetings

Welcome to Okukinosaki Seaside Hotel.

My name is Yusuke Iwai, the fifth-generation president.
Our hotel was founded in Showa 46 by my grandfather, who fell in love with Takeno Beach at first sight, and we recently reopened after renovations to commemorate our 50th anniversary in 2021.

Takeno Beach, which my grandfather fell in love with, captivates us throughout the four seasons with its stunning beauty—the contrast between the blue sea and the white shore, and the light glistening off the waves.
We’re also proud to serve dishes made with a strong commitment to locally sourced ingredients, aiming to support local production and consumption as much as possible. We hope you’ll experience the flavors of this region—including the very air itself—with all five senses.

With a mission to “create the most exciting lodging in Tajima (northern Hyogo Prefecture),” we combine the traditions we’ve inherited from previous generations—which we hold dear—with contemporary trends, and approach our daily work with a spirit of constant challenge.

Whether it’s a one-night stay—or even just a few hours—our hope is that our guests will feel a sense of “excitement” in their hearts during their time with us, and we will continue to grow and improve.

: An experience unique to this very place, woven together by art and nature.

OKUKINOSAKI ART PROJECT

Launched in 2020 to mark the 50th anniversary of the company’s founding. Drawing inspiration from the thirteen deities in the “Creation Myth” passed down in Takeno Town, we invited 13 groups of artists active both in Japan and abroad.

Using their own unique artistic styles, each artist has transformed the grandeur of nature and the mystery of this land—the birthplace of life—into works of art.

As you explore the artworks scattered throughout the hotel and your heart is moved, you will become the fourteenth pillar. That is our wish, and it is one of the concepts we hope to offer you during your stay.

Please take your time and enjoy encountering these unique works of art—the crystallization of artistic sensibility—that you can only find here.
